She / Her

Ruth Wynne is a UK-born, Auckland-based actor, writer and voice artist with a screen and stage career that gives directors plenty to work with. She has appeared in Shortland Street, Making of the Mob, Filthy Rich and Auckland Daze, alongside feature film, short film, commercial, theatre and musical theatre work.

Ruth is the kind of actor who can shift tone without losing the spine of the character. She has strong comic timing, a sharp ear for language, and the emotional steadiness needed to let a scene land without overplaying it. There is elegance there, but also mischief. A useful combination.

Her characters have moved from MI5 agents and journalists through to society women, fantasy warriors, cabaret performers and, yes, a dancing pig. She is especially strong with roles that have wit, contradiction and a little bite, the kind of characters who look polished on the surface but have something more interesting moving underneath.

As a writer and performer, Ruth brings a strong understanding of story from the inside out. She wrote and performed The Perfect Man, a comedy about modern love, technology and the messy search for connection, and won Best Theatre Company for How Do You Like Your Eggs?, a work drawn from her own experience of IVF. That personal authorship shows in her acting. She knows how to serve the writing, not decorate it.

Ruth trains consistently, with ongoing scene study at Howard Fine Studio and a recent in-person intensive with Howard Fine himself. Her training also includes screen acting with Kacie Stetson Studio, Meisner technique, audition technique, accent work, singing and stage combat.

Away from set, Ruth has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro and trained in fight work and samurai sword skills. That sense of courage and curiosity comes into the room with her. She is technically prepared, playful when the work asks for it, and grounded enough to make bold characters feel human.
