Cher Hoosen is a screen and stage actor based in Aotearoa, working across film, television and voice with discipline, range and a clear understanding of story.
Her recent screen credits include Shortland Street, The Brokenwood Mysteries, My Life Is Murder, Spartacus House of Ashur for Lionsgate Television, and Heart Eyes for Spyglass Media Group . Across her various productions she has portrayed roles from a Doctor and CEO to sharply observed supporting characters, consistently delivering grounded, reliable performances within fast paced production environments.
Cher also brings experience behind the camera as the director of Hitman Holiday . This dual perspective gives her a practical understanding of structure, tone and the demands placed on directors and crews. She arrives prepared, adaptable and solution focused, with a strong sense of how her performance serves the wider production.
Her training is ongoing and rigorous. She continues her development through Actors Lab with Peter Feeney, studies the Chubbuck Technique with Anthony Brandon Wong, works privately with Jennifer K Austin, undertakes accent coaching with Anna McCrossin and has completed voice over training with Joel Tobeck . She approaches her craft with professionalism and long term commitment.
A trained mezzo soprano with experience in jazz and contemporary performance , Cher’s theatre work includes It’s a Wonderful Life and Georgy Girl Seekers Musical, alongside live festival performance and improvisation . She brings vocal control, musicality and strong physical awareness to screen roles.
Fluent in Urdu and confident in British, South African, Indian, American and Cape Malay accents , she offers authentic cultural range and credible versatility across character types.
