Double the Talent, Double the Fury! Alice Pearce and Ma’aola Faasavala Take to the Stage at Q Theatre

There is something particularly exciting about seeing our actors not only performing on stage but helping create the stories being told. This November, Collaborate Management is delighted to celebrate two of our talented New Zealand actors, Alice Pearce and Ma’aola Faasavala, who are joining forces in A Kind of Fury, an original theatrical production coming to Auckland’s Q Theatre.

Running from 17 to 21 November 2026 at Q Loft, A Kind of Fury is a sharp, darkly comic exploration of female rage, justice, power and the wonderfully absurd world of bureaucracy. Written and produced by Collaborate Management actor Alice Pearce, directed by Harriett Maire and presented by independent theatre company Extracurricular, the production promises an inventive and entertaining night of contemporary New Zealand theatre.

And we are particularly proud to have two Collaborate Management actors at the heart of it.

Alice Pearce is doing considerably more than stepping onto the stage. As the playwright, producer and a member of the cast, Alice is helping bring an entirely new theatrical world to life. She also performs the role of Min, demonstrating the breadth of her creative abilities across writing, acting and producing.

Fellow Collaborate Management actor Ma’aola Faasavala joins the ensemble as Marjorie, bringing her talents to a production that places women, their experiences and their relationship with power firmly in the spotlight.

The premise is wonderfully imaginative. Inspired by The Furies of Greek mythology, the three formidable goddesses responsible for vengeance and retribution, A Kind of Fury imagines what might happen if these ancient figures were operating in the modern world.

Rather than inhabiting some distant mythological realm, they are running an underground organisation responsible for keeping the world’s injustices in check. There are office politics, administrative demands, temperamental equipment and the everyday frustrations of working life. Add an expanding team of recruits, simmering tensions and the enormous responsibility of maintaining justice, and the stage is set for chaos.

It is an inspired premise for a black comedy, taking the familiar frustrations of office life and giving them mythological consequences.

Underneath the humour, however, A Kind of Fury explores some compelling questions. Who gets to decide what justice looks like? What happens when anger becomes a source of power? And how do women navigate a world that so often has complicated expectations about how they should express their emotions?

These themes give Alice Pearce’s writing plenty of room for comedy, conflict and character, while offering audiences something to think about long after the performance.

For Collaborate Management, it is especially rewarding to see Alice developing original work and creating opportunities for other performers. Actors who write and produce bring an additional perspective to the entertainment industry, contributing not only their performances but also the ideas and creative leadership that make new productions possible.

Alice’s involvement in A Kind of Fury reflects the versatility of contemporary New Zealand actors, many of whom are building careers across theatre, television, film and original creative projects.

We are equally delighted to see Ma’aola Faasavala performing alongside Alice. As a Samoan New Zealand actor, Ma’aola is part of an exciting generation of performers contributing to the diversity and depth of our local acting industry. Her role as Marjorie provides another opportunity for audiences and industry professionals to experience her work in a live theatrical setting.

The production also brings together an impressive ensemble of Auckland performers, including Sheena Irving, Cherie Moore, Beth Alexander, Vena-Rose Lennane, Emma Campbell, Dylan Thuraisingham and Dennis Zhang.

Director Harriett Maire brings considerable experience in independent theatre and screen storytelling. Her previous theatre directing credits include Animal, Reunion, Twinless, Champions and Big Time. Her screen work has also received international recognition, including an award at the Diversity in Cannes Short Film Showcase for her short film ANNA.

A Kind of Fury continues the creative relationship between Harriett Maire and Extracurricular, the independent production company behind Champions at Basement Theatre in 2023 and Big Time at Q Loft in 2025. Both productions enjoyed sold out seasons, making this latest work an exciting addition to the company’s growing theatrical portfolio.

Productions such as A Kind of Fury are an important part of New Zealand’s creative landscape. Independent theatre gives writers, directors, actors and designers the opportunity to experiment with new ideas, develop original New Zealand stories and connect directly with audiences.

Supporting our actors means celebrating their achievements across every aspect of the entertainment industry. Whether they are appearing in international screen productions, performing on New Zealand stages, writing new work or developing their own creative projects, each opportunity contributes to the strength of our local talent community.

A Kind of Fury is a wonderful example of that creative ambition in action, and we could not be more pleased to see Alice Pearce and Ma’aola Faasavala sharing the stage.

For anyone who enjoy intelligent comedy, contemporary theatre, strong ensemble performances and stories that are not afraid to ask difficult questions, this is a production worth adding to the November calendar.

A Kind of Fury opens at Q Theatre in central Auckland on Tuesday 17 November 2026 at 7.30pm, with performances running until Saturday 21 November. The production runs for approximately 80 minutes without an interval.

We wish Alice, Ma’aola, Harriett and the entire cast and creative team a fabulous season. We are looking forward to seeing this wonderfully furious world come to life.

Tickets and further production information are available through the official Q Theatre A Kind of Fury event page at iTicket.
