Waitahi Aniwaniwa McGee is a multi-talented artist who has been actively contributing to the arts scene since relocating to Wellington in 2019 to study acting at Toi Whakaari/NZ Drama School. Over the past three years, Waitahi has taken on a variety of freelance roles, including Assistant Director, stage manager, actor, and vocalist, collaborating with organizations like Tāwhiri Festivals and Experiences, Wellington Opera, Verb Wellington, Kia Mau Festival, and Barbarian Productions.
In 2020, they co-directed the poetry film "Noho Mai," and the following year, their contributions to the arts were recognised when they were named "Most Promising Emerging Artist" at the Wellington Fringe. This award was for introducing their original work, "Wai Ata Mai," at the Pūtahi Festival. In 2022, Waitahi was one of two recipients of the CNZ Toi Tipu Toi Rea Fund, which supported the final development of "Wai Ata Mai."
