Vanessa Rare, a name that has become synonymous with excellence in the New Zealand film and television industry, has captured the hearts of audiences across the nation for her exceptional talents both in front of and behind the camera. As one of New Zealand's most recognized faces in the entertainment world, Vanessa's jouney started  in front of a camera playing scheming solo mum Rata, in Gaylene Preston comedy hit Ruby and Rata (1990). 

Herald critic Peter Calder wrote that she filled "the screen with a presence one would expect of a veteran performer".  Daughter of a runner and a champion ballet dancer, Rare went on to co-star in one-off drama Kahu & Maia and her status grew in the NZ industry as, 'Te Hana Hudson' on Shortland Street, this was a chore cast role that solidified her as a staple in the NZ screen Industry.  

Vanessa's dedication to her craft and tireless work ethic led to back-to-back award-winning performances, establishing her as a force to be reckoned with in the industry.
